Member of the month: September 2014Danielle BaskervilleIndependent Contemporary Dance Artist, Teacher, and Writer Artistic Associate of The Dietrich Group Where are you from? I was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and raised in Victoria, B.C. Definitely an ocean-person at heart. Who inspired you to be a dance artist? Everyone I've ever seen dancing, everyone I continue to see dancing. Mostly my own deep-set feeling that dance cuts through barriers that language can create. Where do you do most of your training? Contemporary dance training in Toronto is in the midst of an exciting transformation. I'm a big fan of the alternative-based movement classes and workshops offered by the Toronto Dance Community Love-In. This fall, I'm taking Bee Pallomina's Open Source Forms through Series 808's Alternative Technique Classes. I also drop in on company class with Toronto Dance Theatre, Dancemakers, Dancetheatre David Earle and the year-long classes available through GMD. Why did you join CADA-ON? We need to look after one another, as our national and provincial governments don't always do a great job of looking after their artists. CADA-ON can help us organize in a way that educates and empowers us as individuals and as a community. And of course, the Training Subsidy Program! What projects coming up are you involved in? On September 25, Danceworks presents 'elsewhere', choreographed by adelheid dance projects' Heidi Strauss. Please come. 'elsewhere' is at Danceworks September 25-27.
